There are many reasons that I love working at JMARK, but more than anything it is the people.
When I came to JMARK the first time, it was to drop something off to a friend, a JMARK employee. When I walked in, I thought, “Wow—this place is awesome!” I was only in the building a short time, but there was just a vibe: friendly people, NASA feel—just a place that seemed really cool.
I left and immediately text my friend and said, “If you guys ever have any job openings, let me know—that place seems awesome!” She confirmed my thoughts and went on about how great it was.
A few months later, my friend and I were out celebrating my birthday and I overheard her mention to another friend that her work was looking for someone to cover her position temporarily, while she was out on maternity leave. I chimed in and said “HELLO! I want to work there!” She said, “Oh yeah,” and proceeded to tell me more about the position and JMARK. Within days, they brought me in for an interview, and I was HIRED! Yes! I was so excited.
For the next few months, while she was out on maternity leave, I busted my rear to prove they needed me on this team. I did not want this to be a temporary position. I took on extra things and offered to help anyone that would listen to me. When she came back, they took some time to figure out if and where they could use me at JMARK.
December 6, 2010 was my first day as a regular, full-time employee of JMARK, although I celebrate my JMARK anniversary in September, which is when I first joined the team.
I was hired to do a hodgepodge of things, but it turned into helping to build the HR team and start some processes and things we had never done before at JMARK. Some things needed to be tweaked and others needed to be built from the ground up. JMARK invested in me and helped me attain my HR Certificate through MSU’s Management Development Institute (MDI).
Today, I have been with JMARK for seven years and I am an HR Generalist. Every day is a new challenge and experience. I have grown so much in my role and in all of my relationships, overall. The most important part of my job is the people. I know that is cliché and people might think I am just saying that, but it is true. I do my best every single day to give the best customer service (my customers are mostly internal—I support those who support our customers) to every person I interact with. I want each employee to feel good about our interaction and feel like I am there to help them. Whether it is benefits, wellness, or any other hat I wear, I hope when an employee walks away from me, they feel like they got what they needed from me! I might not always succeed, but it is my goal every day.
I am so grateful to work for a company that has my family and me at the top of its priority list. While I come to work every day to do a job, I come to a job that I love and work with my family.
Doesn’t get much better than that!
